Picking and Choosing Projects

This morning, I received an intriguing e-mail about collaborating with another author on a new book - on Excel 2010. It's for beginner to intermediate level readers and the timeline is fast. That said, I would not have much say in the production and quality assurance or content of the book yet it would have my name on it as an author.

So the question is I pose is, do you think I should join this project? It would be nice to write another book without the financial risks and it would be a fast one to "knock out". Plus, I enjoy writing about Excel. On the other hand, when I attach my name to a project, it has to have a certain level of quality associated with it - else, it reflects poorly on myself, and the company.

Sounds like an interesting opportunity.

Contributing, especially if you get your name on the book, beats writing the whole thing - I know my co-authors had a lot less hassle than I did.

As for product quality - bottom line, it depends on the publisher. If their other books are quality products, they have a reputation to maintain.

Good luck, whatever your decision.
